A little about me. My debut picture book SuperYogaGirl will be out in 2025 with Clear Fork Publishing. It was inspired by being the new girl in school a few too many times. I immigrated from Russia in the early 1980's when Russia was considered the evil empire. I moved around quite a bit and I was shy so it was hard for me to make friends. I never met an magical elephant that lived inside me the way YogaGirl does, but I wonder what might have changed if I had.

I didn't discover yoga until I came home from college for winter break. My dad and I decided to try a new an exotic class at his NJ gym: yoga. As we teetered in tree pose surrounded by mirrors and fluorescent lights, I had no idea I would be teaching yoga myself one day, sweeping through India in search of yoga's subtle secrets.

I yoga'd my way through working in advertising on Madison Ave, through acting in black box theaters in NYC and TV and movie sets in LA, through the birth of my daughter and my twin sons.  My yoga practice started to shift away from the physical poses and into the realm of mindfulness and conscious (and unconscious) parenting.

I didn't know about yoga when I was friendless on the playground. I wrote SuperYogaGirl because I wanted to empower young girls to believe they don’t need external approval to feel good about themselves. And you don't need a mask or a cape to be an everyday superhero.

Meet the Illustrator: Kary Keppol

Kary lives in the Pacific Northwest with her partner and a mischievous french bulldog named Iroh. She is primarily a painter with a long background in picture book studies, and a deep love of paper mache.
Yoga Girl is her first published picture book! She uses yoga every night before bed. It’s so important to stretch your body, especially when you sit hunched over a painting all day.
